Get your early bird tickets to The O.P.E.N.

The O.P.E.N. is a pre-festival programme of the Singapore International Festival of Arts (SIFA). Spanning across 18 days, The O.P.E.N. will bring you exhibitions, performances, salons (talks, discussions, insights), film screenings, and concerts.

The early bird discount off tickets is now on till 10th May 2015. Of course, we may also consider the O.P.E.N. Pass (early bird discount applies as well!) that allows admission to all events under four of the five categories said above, except performances, which are separately ticketed.

After purchasing your O.P.E.N. Pass, do register for the events you wish to attend using the Ticket ID on the top right hand corner of your ticket issued by Sistic. Just click on the REGISTER NOW button that comes with each event synopsis.

The O.P.E.N.: 16th June – 4th July 2015

SIFA: 6th August – 19th September 2015 (early bird discount of 20% also applies, till 10th May 2015!)

I am going to pick one event from each of the categories of exhibitions, performances, as well as concerts, solely based on their respective synopses. I will also quote a line or two from each synopsis that has piqued my extra interest in the event.

The Arrival Of Vasco da Gama (2014) by Pushpamala N.

Why I picked this? “Pushpamala N.’s photographic tableau recreates Salgado’s painting with a significant twist in the tale – she plays the role of the celebrated explorer, her first male role amongst all her photo-performances.”

Opens 24th June 2015: 7pm – 10pm | 25th June through 4th July (Tuesday – Saturday: noon – 10pm; Sunday: noon – 6pm; Monday: closed)

Venue: 72-13

FREE ADMISSION with O.P.E.N. Pass. Limited single entry tickets available at the door.

Frenemies by Navtej Johar

Why I picked this? “The work is created and performed through exploring the context of Bharatanatyam amongst temple dancers and courtesans,” / “Frenemies is about a lick, a bite, a jab, a sting, a sigh and a song,”

2nd, 3rd, 4th July 2015, 8pm (1 hour, no intermission)

Venue: 72-13

iNCH by iNCH

Why I picked this? “her energetic and soaring jazz-inflected vocals” / “Eschewing more traditional routes of success, iNCH has refused to sign on to a major music label.”

27th June 2015, 9.30pm (1 hour, no intermission)

Venue: Barber Shop by TIMBRE

FREE ADMISSION with O.P.E.N. Pass. Limited single entry tickets available at the door.

Now start picking something you like and go for it/them! Try limiting yourself based on budget, or time constraint, or the categories. This way you will carefully learn more about each event and finally arrive at something that you will later on be so pleased with yourself for picking it!
